ACT-Bangladesh Officially Launches: Performing for sustainable future

 

Dhaka, January 26, 2025 – ACT-Bangladesh (Applied Climate Theatre-Bangladesh), the first-ever climate-focused theatre organization in the country, has officially commenced its journey. The launch event, held at the auditorium of Tagore University of Creative Arts in Uttara, Dhaka marks a significant milestone in using performance arts as a medium to address climate change. ACT-Bangladesh is an innovative platform that uniquely blends theatre with climate awareness, action, and advocacy.

Through compelling performances, educational workshops, and community outreach, ACT-Bangladesh provides audiences with the opportunity to confront the pressing realities of climate change. By using storytelling as a tool, the organization aims to engage, educate, and inspire individuals, organizations, and communities to take decisive, meaningful action toward a sustainable future.

The event’s chief guest, Professor Dr. Syed Mohammad Shahed, Vice-Chancellor of Tagore University of Creative Arts and Secretary General of the United Nations Association of Bangladesh, shared his insights on the importance of art as a tool for climate advocacy.

Abdur Razzak, the Founder and Director of ACT-Bangladesh, emphasized, “Theatre has the power to evoke emotions, challenge perceptions, and inspire action. Through ACT-Bangladesh, we aim to create a platform that not only showcases the devastating impacts of climate change but also empowers individuals to envision and work toward a sustainable tomorrow.”

ACT-Bangladesh collaborates with Global Climate Action Partners are Lancashire Arts Network for Developing Sustainability (LANDS) and Ergon Theatre, Institutional partner Tagore University of Creative Arts, Climate & Health Partner Health Security Foundation, and Creative partner Bytequill.
